Quantum Fusion E

Power Base

The Fusion E is available in two versions – either the standard 4 mph version, or an upgraded 6 mph one with lights. It features a compact base that allows it to manoeuvre well indoors, although rear-wheel drive means it will never match the turning of mid-wheel drive models such as the Jazzy 600Es or Quantum Q4. However, it excels outside thanks to the rear wheel drive, chunky wheels, and powerful motors. With suspension on the rear wheels, it provides a comfortable ride, while the large front castors help with obstacle climbing.

Seating

The modular seating design allows seat widths of 15 – 22 inches to be achieved, as well as depths of 15 – 23 inches. While most standard powerchairs feature a “one size fits all” approach or at most 2-3 different set sizes, the Fusion E has far more adjustability, allowing us to set it up to fit your exact size. A tension adjustable backrest provides a good level of comfort, while swing-away legrests aid with access to the front of the chair, particularly with transfers.

The seating can be upgraded to more advanced backrests and cushions, including Quantum’s Stealth range, which provide for enhanced postural support, and the comfort to use your powerchair throughout the day. Third-party options can also be fitted. However, in most cases where someone would benefit from this level of seating, it is generally best to have a fully prescriptive chair that has the options for powered seating functions such as tilt and recline – the Fusion E only has a static seat.

Style

The Fusion E features modern matt-black styling, including its tyres, ensuring it is a good-looking powerchair. Yellow wheel accents are available if you wish to add a splash of colour to your chair.

Our Verdict

The Fusion E is primarily attractive for being a low-cost chair whose seating can be set up to fit you. Similar models to consider are Quickie’s Q100R, which has a narrower base better suited to indoor use, and the chunkier Q200R that favours outdoor performance. For a higher-end chair with more versatility to its seating, we would suggest Quantum’s Q4 and Permobil’s M1.
